Janée Williams serves as the communications associate at The Education Trust Tennessee, where she plays a role in supporting efforts to increase awareness of the organization’s mission. She works on crafting and executing media strategies that help elevate the conversation around educational equity. She is a proud alumna of Spelman College and the former Miss Black Georgia USA 2022.

What drew you to education?

Janée Williams’ dedication to education was shaped early on as a former teacher in Harlem, where she witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by Black and Brown students. Her passion for educational equity has always been fueled by her belief in empowering students to succeed despite systemic barriers.

Why are you passionate about working at Ed Trust?

Janée is deeply committed to working at EdTrust because of the organization’s unwavering focus on promoting educational equity. Her background in community engagement and social justice research aligns with EdTrust’s mission, and she’s passionate about using her platform to amplify the voices of underserved students and families.

What’s your favorite thing to do outside of work?

Outside of her professional role, Janée enjoys singing, exploring various forms of art, and advocating for mental health within underserved communities. She also enjoys volunteering and working on initiatives that promote the well-being of Black women and girls.

Proudest Moment

Janée’s proudest moment is the lasting impact she made as an educator, where she was able to empower her students and provide them with the tools to envision a brighter future for themselves.
