Statewide education policies affect thousands of students, families, and communities and have a critical and far-reaching impact on educational equity and justice. That’s why legislative advocacy is a core function of our work at EdTrust-Tennessee. We’re actively engaged in executing multi-faceted advocacy strategies — from helping families and communities reach out to their elected officials to working in concert with state-level education leaders on developing community-informed policies that have the greatest impact on expanding educational equity and opportunities.

ennessee policymakers are pushing to expand the state’s newest voucher program, the Education Freedom Scholarship, a program that uses public tax dollars to pay for certain families' private school tuition. The program has only been in effect for a year, with barely any transparency and no real accountability about whether or not the program works.
